If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your existing outdoor surveillance system to a new and more modern state-of-the-art system, or if you’re considering installing your first outdoor security camera system, the time to do it is now!
Funding is still available from the City’s Home and Business Protection Program (HBPP). It provides rebates up to certain limits that cover the costs of outdoor security cameras, one year of cloud storage for video footage, outdoor motion sensor lighting, vehicle GPS trackers, and subscription costs.
What is the Private Sector Camera Initiative?
The Private Sector Camera Initiative links Chicago based organizations, companies and sister agencies’ cameras systems into the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) state-of-the-art unified video surveillance network.
These cameras provide Emergency Management officials and Homeland Security Directors additional points of contact throughout the City that can be accessed during an emergency.
How Do I Ensure My Business’s Cameras Are Compatible?
From installation and configuration to testing and naming, OEMC and their partner companies (like us here at LaMarco Systems) take interested participants through the entire process.
The process starts with site surveys for organizations to determine their compatible equipment options. While virtually any broadband-type Internet connection is supported, the minimum uplink speed recommended is 128 Mbps. A public IP address directly accessible by OEMC over the Internet is also required.
To participate, simply purchase an eligible device on or after 6/6/2022, take a photo of the installed device, submit a completed application, and receive financial reimbursement. The program is on a first-come, first-serve basis and will run through December 31, 2024, or until funds are depleted, whichever comes first.
While all Chicago residents are encouraged to take advantage of this program, we’re able to help business, religious, and non-profit organizations streamline their implementation and better position them to make the most of these funds.
What Are The Reimbursement Requirements?
Whether you work through this process on your own, directly with the OEMC, or through a partner like us, anyone who meets the eligibility criteria for the Chicago Private Sector Camera Initiative may receive reimbursement for:
- up to $225 per camera (cost of camera and tax only) for a maximum of 2 cameras, or a total $450 reimbursement.
- one year of subscription costs for cloud-based video storage systems for a maximum of $150 per annual subscription.
To be eligible for any qualifying rebates, the following requirements must be met:
- The applicant must be an owner or tenant of a property used as a primary residence*, business, religious institution, or nonprofit organization within the City of Chicago OR own or lease a vehicle registered to a primary address within the City of Chicago.
- The applicant must provide documentation that verifies proof of purchase, showing a date of purchase on or after 6/6/2022.
- The applicant must install the device(s) and provide a photo showing the installed device(s).
